Hello from the Diamondhead Lions,

As a Lions Club we sponsor events to better our quality of lie, give enjoyment and raise funds for many organizations that need financial help in the area.

In the Spring we sponsor a Fishing Derby in the ponds by our entrance for special needs children from four area schools.  We start by stocking the ponds with catfish which the children take great delight in catching.  This past year there were some rather large fish put in the pond which really gave the boys and girls a real "catch".  After fishing the children gather at the Country Club for lunch.   After lunch the Lake Hamilton fire trucks are in our parking lot where fire fighting equipment is placed in the Kiddie Korral for the children to explore.  A LifeNet helicopter with a pilot, flight nurse and paramedic are also in the parking lot where each child is given the opportunity to sit in the helicopter.  It's a great day!

In the Spring we sponsor a golf tournament to raise funds.  This is a fun event, and over 100 people join in the tournament and luncheon.  There are raffle prizes galore plus awards for really super scores.

The Lions sponsor Bingo on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month at the Country Club.  All funds are earmarked for special needs in our community and also for needs in the Hot Springs area.  In past years we have presented the POA with the lighted motion marque at the entrance, a new sound system for the main room of the Country Club and many other items.

We also put together and pay for the community phone book that comes out every two years.  This is an intense labor of love and can always use more helping hands.

The Lions also decorate a small trailer from which candy is passed out during the annual Youth Committee Trunk and Treat evening on Halloween in the Country Club parking lot.  It is our way of reaching out and saying we care to the children of the community and surrounding area.

We have teams that pick up trash from our entrance gate to the corner by the Diamondhead Real Estate office. This is just another way w help keep our area looking great.

We have a special outreach to high school seniors.  Each year we offer a $2,000 scholarship to a student from out community who has shown great achievement in academics and school and community involvemen.  We have a committee of educators who oversee this program.

The Lions meet on the third Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m.  There is a meeting followed by dinner.  Some months there is a speaker.

We invite you to join us for a meeting and dinner so you can meet our club members and find out more about us.  If you have questions, please fee free to call Faye Taylor at 262-0558 or Jim Hannon at 262-9070.

Hope to hear from you soon.
